100 Years of Swimming Excellence $1 Coin

An essential commemorative for anyone who has ever competed in the pool, this 2009 coin celebrates the 100th anniversary of Swimming Australia. Developing out of the Amateur Swimming Union of Australia, founded in 1909, and Australian Swimming Inc, formed in 1984, Swimming Australia has overseen Australia’s pioneering role in the sport and a cavalcade of great swimming champions.
Uncirculated Base Metal
Struck by The Perth Mint under license from Swimming Australia, the $1 coin (30mm) is presented in uncirculated base metal.
Cleverly Composed Reverse Design
The coin’s reverse depicts Swimming Australia’s official ‘100 years of excellence’ logo and a freestyle swimmer. The water includes splashes cleverly composed of silhouetted swimming figures. Also incorporated in the design is The Perth Mint’s historic ‘P’ mintmark.
Australian Legal Tender
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse.
Illustrated Presentation Card
The coin is housed on an illustrated presentation card depicting water composed of similar silhouetted swimming figures.
