The Perth Mint’s new ANZAC Day $1 coin program is a major numismatic tribute inspired by the deep significance of 25 April 1915, the day Australian forces landed on a hostile shore on the Gallipoli peninsula in Turkey. Comprising annual releases each featuring a new reverse design theme, the coins honour all Australian Defence Force personnel who have served their country.
Remembering Diggers’ Sacrifices
The reverse of the very first ANZAC Day $1 coin, which portrays a former Australian serviceman with a young child sitting on his lap, symbolises the importance of remembering our diggers’ sacrifices and the preservation of their memories by each succeeding generation. The design includes a silhouetted bugler, the words ‘Lest We Forget’ and the date of ANZAC Day – April 25 - on which the lives of all Australians lost in war time are remembered.
‘P’ Mintmark
The uncirculated base metal coin’s reverse also includes The Perth Mint’s historic ‘P’ mintmark.
Australian Legal Tender
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin portrays the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse.
Presentation Display Card
The coin is housed on an illustrated presentation card with a fold-out stand, allowing it to be displayed upright alongside future annual releases.
