The Perth Mint and Australia Post are pleased to celebrate the auspicious Year of the Dragon with a stunning Stamp and Coin Cover.
In Chinese culture, people born in the Year of the Dragon – 1916, 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000 and 2012 – are regarded as confident, enterprising, independent, self-assured, brave and passionate.
The uncirculated aluminium coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.

Unique Reverse Design
The coin’s reverse depicts a dragon with a representation of a ‘pearl of wisdom’, the Chinese character for ‘dragon’ and the inscription YEAR OF THE DRAGON. The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark is also featured in the design.
Australian Legal Tender Coin
The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2012 year-date and monetary denomination are shown on the coin’s obverse.
Official Australia Post Stamps
Affixed to the envelope are official Australia Post 60c and $1.80 stamps. The stamps depict a stylised dragon image and are postmarked for the first day of issue. The envelope includes Australia Post’s Seal of Authenticity and official number.
Beautifully Designed Presentation Envelope
The coin is presented in a beautifully designed card that fits inside a similarly illustrated envelope with a circular window revealing the coin’s reverse and obverse designs.
