The Perth Mint is excited to present the Star Trek: The Original Series Spock Stamp & Coin Cover, celebrating 50 years of Star Trek.
Spock was born in 2230 on the planet Vulcan and initially served as a Starfleet officer for several decades before going on to become a Federation ambassador. As a young lieutenant he served as science officer aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 under the command of Captain Christopher Pike. When Captain James Kirk took command of the vessel in 2265, Spock was promoted to first officer, before eventually being promoted to Captain.
Star Trek Reverse Design
The coin’s reverse portrays a colour image of the actor Leonard Nimoy (1931 – 2015) giving the Vulcan salute as Spock as he appeared in Star Trek, against a representation of the IDIC Vulcan symbol and the inscription SPOCK. The design also includes The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark, and the coin’s weight and fineness.
Official Australia Post Stamp
Affixed to each envelope is an official Australia Post $1.00 stamp. Each stamp is postmarked for the first day of issue and the envelope includes Australia Post’s Seal of Authenticity.
Tuvalu Legal Tender
Issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu, the obverse of the coin features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2016 year-date, and the monetary denomination.
Star Trek-themed Presentation Card
Each uncirculated aluminium bronze coin is housed in an illustrated card featuring Star Trek imagery with circular windows revealing the reverse and obverse designs.
Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek debuted in 1966, and ran for three seasons until 1969. Set in the future, the science fiction series followed the 23rd century adventures of Captain James T. Kirk and the Constitution-class starship U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701, a powerful interstellar spacecraft dispatched by the Earth-based Starfleet Command to explore the Galaxy.
With the ability to travel at speeds surpassing the speed of light, the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 was one of the United Federation of Planets’ most famous space-exploration vessels. The Starship achieved lasting fame from the five-year mission she undertook under the command of Captain James T. Kirk. The mission handed down by Starfleet involved deep-space exploration to seek out new life and new civilizations, and to boldly go where no man has gone before™.
