Coin Design Follows Popular Bush Babies Silver Proof Series
In these outstanding designs for Australian Bush Babies, Elise Martinson portrays each beautiful baby animal with their eyes bright and alert, set against a background of Australian flora.
The koala coin’s reverse depicts a cuddly koala set against a background of Golden Wattle, Waratah and flowering gums. The design includes the koala’s insect friend, a cicada, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
The dingo coin’s reverse depicts a dingo pup set against a background of Banksia, Sturt’s Desert Peas and foliage. The design includes the dingo’s insect friend, a butterfly, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
The bilby coin’s reverse depicts a baby bilby set against a background of native daisies and foliage. The design includes the bilby’s insect friend, a grasshopper, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
The sugar glider coin’s reverse depicts a baby sugar glider set against a background of Banksia, native flowers and foliage. The design includes the sugar glider’s insect friend, a dragonfly, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
The kangaroo reverse depicts a baby kangaroo set against a background of the Kangaroo Paw plant, wild orchids and foliage. The design includes the kangaroo’s insect friend, a ladybird, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
Australian Legal Tender
Struck from aluminium bronze, each coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. Each coin’s obverse portrays the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the 2011 year-date.
Official Australia Post Stamps
The $2.35 stamps replicate the coin designs of each delightful bush baby. Each stamp is postmarked for the first day of issue beginning with the koala in July, the dingo in August, the bilby in September, the sugar glider in October and the kangaroo in November 2011. In addition, every envelope is endorsed with Australia Post’s Seal of Authenticity and official number.

Each coin is housed in a charming, specially designed card that fits inside the illustrated envelope with a circular window revealing the coin’s reverse and obverse designs.
