Traditional belief suggests they are intelligent, quick-witted and exceptional problem solvers. Coloured Design In 2004, the Australian Lunar Gold Coin Series celebrates the Year of the Monkey. This Coloured Edition coin depicts a brightly coloured monkey and tree branch on a frosted gold background. The design also includes the Chinese character for ‘monkey’. 99.99% Pure Gold The coin is struck from 1/2oz of 99.99% pure gold in specimen quality. Australian Legal Tender Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, it features Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse.
