Stunning Design

A mature horse in full gallop is the splendid image on the Year of the Horse silver coins. The reverse design also features a border of five bats among the clouds, symbolising health, peace and prosperity. Purple and yellow represent the traditional colours used on the Chinese Emperor's robe. The Chinese character for horse is incorporated in the design.

Year of the Horse

The Year of the Horse runs from 12 February 2002 to 31 January 2003, and is said to be marked by increased commercial activity and interest in outdoor pursuits and physical exercise. The Chinese believe that the horse is associated with energy and is a sign of happiness, confidence and success. People born in the Year of the Horse are typically cheerful, skilful and perceptive. Each coin is housed in a jarrah timber display case, which is seated in a tray that tilts to display the coin when the lid is opened. It is accompanied by a serial-numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

All coins are struck from 99.9% fine silver with a frosted design on a polished background. The coins are official coinage and legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. Each horse coin also features an individual serial number around its edge.
