If you think previous releases in this series are eye-catching, then take a look at this huge 2004 Diamond Eye Monkey coin. Containing a massive 1 Kilo of pure silver, it incorporates two 0.02-carat white diamonds in its stunning reverse design. Year of the Monkey According to the ancient Chinese Lunar Calendar, people born in 1920, 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992 and 2004 are born in the Year of the Monkey. Traditional belief suggests they are intelligent, quick-witted and exceptional problem solvers. Hand Set Diamonds In 2004, the Australian Lunar Silver Coin Series celebrates the Year of the Monkey with a design featuring a monkey sitting on a tree branch and the Chinese character for ‘monkey’. As well as two hand set diamonds in the monkey’s eyes, this spectacular design features a symbolic border of bats and clouds, which are coloured purple and yellow - traditional colours used on the Chinese Emperor's robe. Australian Legal Tender Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin portrays the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination on the obverse. Quality Guaranteed Diamond Eye coins are struck from 99.9% pure silver, with frosted designs on polished backgrounds. Unique Timber Presentation Like its predecessors, this Diamond Eye Monkey coin is housed in a jarrah timber display case, which is seated in a tray that tilts to display the coin when the lid is opened. Limited Mintage No more than 5,000 of these Kilo Year of the Monkey coins will be issued, accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
