Stunning Design
The design features a rabbit sitting up in the grass, and the Chinese character for rabbit to signify the sign's place in the Chinese lunar calendar. The central design is surrounded by a border of five bats, which symbolise longevity, health, peace, prosperity and integrity. Purple and yellow represent the traditional colours used on the Chinese Emperor's robe.
Year of the Rabbit
The recent Chinese Year of the Rabbit covered the period 16 February 1999 to 4 February 2000. People born in the Year of the Rabbit - 1915, 1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, and 1999 - are said to be articulate, talented, virtuous, sensitive to the arts and long living. All coins are struck from 99.9% pure silver with a frosted design on a polished background. The coins are official coinage and legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. Serial-numbered Certificates of Authenticity accompany each coin. Each rabbit coin also features an individual serial number around its edge.
