In Chinese culture, people born in the Year of the Dog - 1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994 and 2006 - are regarded as loyal, trustworthy, honest and ethical. Gilded Dog Design In 2006, the Australian Lunar Silver Coin Series - Gilded Edition celebrates the Year of the Dog with a design featuring a German Shepherd - a smart and protective dog that bonds strongly with its keeper - which is gilded in 24-carat gold. The design also includes the year-date, the Chinese character for ‘dog’, and a border of bats and clouds symbolising health, peace and prosperity. Australian Legal Tender Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, it features Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. Gold-Coloured Presentation Case The coin is housed in a gold-coloured presentation case, which is encased within a gold-coloured outer box.
