Honouring an Historic Proclamation Coin
The 1787 Proclamation Shilling Tribute honours one of Australia’s historic Proclamation coins. With 10 other ‘specie’ from around the world, it was listed in Governor Philip Gidley King’s famous edict of 1800, which aimed to regulate the young colony’s chaotic currency system.
Proof Quality 99.9% Pure Silver
The commemorative coin is struck from 6g of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality.
Replicates Original 1787 Shilling Reverse
The reverse of the Tribute replicates the 1787 coin’s reverse comprising cruciform pentagonal shields around a star, with crowns in the angles. Adding to the numismatic fascination of the Tribute, it portrays the ‘no hearts’ variety of the original coin, which was minted in error in England in large numbers.
Australian Legal Tender
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the Tribute’s obverse depicts Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the 2008 year-date.
Presentation Case
The coin is housed in a blue presentation case and illustrated shipper.
Limited Mintage
The Perth Mint will release no more than 3,000 of these 1787 Proclamation Shilling Tributes.
Numbered Certificate of Authenticity
Each coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
