Struck from aluminium bronze, the coin’s coloured reverse represents the Lord Howe Island Group’s stunning landscape and features the Sooty Tern, a native seabird.

The coin’s reverse also incorporates The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
Australian Legal Tender
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse.

The Lord Howe Island Group was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1982 and is located 700 kilometres northeast of Sydney. The Lord Howe Island Group comprises Lord Howe Island, Admiralty Islands, Mutton Bird Island, Ball's Pyramid, Blackburn Island and associated coral reefs and marine environments.
The spectacular land and seascapes of the region feature volcanic mountains, diverse low-lying rainforests, palm forests, grasslands and coral reefs. Renowned for their beauty and biodiversity, the islands provide a habitat for many unique native plants and seabirds.
