Product Information

The Perth Mint is pleased to celebrate the centenary of military aviation and submarines in Australia with this exceptional Stamp and Coin Cover.

The first military flight was taken at the Army flying field at Point Cook in Victoria on 1 March 1914.  Australia’s first submarines were commissioned into the Royal Australian Navy in February 1914 and arrived in Sydney on 24 May 1914.

Two Aluminium Bronze $1 Coins

Each $1 coin is struck by The Perth Mint from aluminium bronze.

Unique Commemorative Reverse Designs

The reverse of the aviation coin depicts a representation of a Bristol aeroplane propeller with a military Boxkite flying under the propeller blade and an F/A-18 Hornet fighter aircraft soaring above the blade. The inscription 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF AUSTRALIAN MILITARY AVIATION, the dates 1914 – 2014, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark are also included in the design.

The reverse of the submarine coin features a representation of a submarine cruising through the ocean, set against an ominous, cloudy sky. The inscription CENTENARY OF AUSTRALIAN SUBMARINES 1914 – 2014, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark are also included in the design.

Australian Legal Tender

Issued as Australian legal tender, both uncirculated aluminium bronze coins depict the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2014 year-date, and the monetary denomination on their obverses.

Official Australia Post Stamps

Affixed to the envelope are two official Australia Post 70c stamps. The stamps are postmarked for the first day of issue and the envelope includes Australia Post’s Seal of Authenticity and official number. One featuring a military Boxkite, while the other coin features a representation of submarine submerged in the sea.

Beautifully Designed Presentation Envelope

The commemorative coin is housed in a specially designed card that fits inside an illustrated envelope, which displays a circular window to reveal the coin’s reverse and obverse designs.
