The $1 coin is struck from aluminium bronze in uncirculated quality.
Historical Reverse Design
The coin’s reverse portrays a representation of famous escapologist Harry Houdini’s
Voisin bi-plane, which he flew successfully at Diggers Rest, near Melbourne, 100 years ago
in March. As well as The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, the design incorporates the
inscription AUSTRALIAN CENTENARY OF FLIGHT DIGGERS REST 18th MARCH 1910.
Australian Legal Tender
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the $1 coin
depicts the Ian Rank-Bradley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the 2010
year-date on the obverse.
Commemorative $2.10 Stamp
The coin is housed in an illustrated envelope bearing a commemorative $2.10 Australia
Post stamp depicting Houdini’s aircraft.
Commemorative Postmark
The stamp is cancelled with a special postmark containing the words FIRST DAY OF
ISSUE 9 MARCH 2010 DIGGERS REST VICTORIA 3427.
