Australia's pre-decimal coins remain favourites with many collectors. Now, 44 years after decimalisation, miniature versions of these beloved coins have been faithfully recreated to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Australian Commonwealth coinage.
Replicas of Original Pre-Decimal Coinage
The miniature replicas feature the original designs and comprise:
One Florin - made from sterling silver, the replica bears the first Australian Coat of Arms surrounded by the words ONE FLORIN - TWO SHILLINGS and the year-date 1931 on its reverse.
One Shilling - made from sterling silver, the replica bears the first Australian Coat of Arms surrounded by the words ONE SHILLING and the year-date 1916 on its reverse.
Sixpence - made from sterling silver, the replica bears the first Australian Coat of Arms surrounded by the words SIXPENCE and the year-date 1926 on its reverse.
Threepence - made from sterling silver, the replica bears the first Commonwealth Coat of Arms surrounded by the words THREEPENCE and the year-date 1936 on its reverse.
One Penny - made from copper, the replica bears the words ONE PENNY surrounded by the inscription COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA and the year-date 1935 on its reverse.
Half Penny - made from copper, the replica bears the words ONE HALF PENNY surrounded by the inscription COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA and the year-date 1934 on its reverse.
The obverse of each replica depicts Sir E B Mackennal's effigy of King George V.
