The ninth coin in the Deadly and Dangerous coin series features one of Australia’s most fearsome creatures, the Spider-Hunting Scorpion, which can be found right across the southern half of Australia, usually in dry inland areas.
Scorpions are highly venomous, and it is believed that the Spider-Hunting Scorpion has evolved to specialise in preying on wolf spiders and other species that utilise a burrow with a trap door.
The Spider-Hunting Scorpion’s long, thick tail and powerful stinger make the perfect weapon in the confined space of a spider burrow.
