Discover Australia is a magnificent collector coin program from the historic Perth Mint. Scheduled for release between 2006 and 2008, the program comprises pure gold, silver and platinum proof coins depicting Australia's amazing fauna, landmarks and flora.

Proof Quality 99.95% Pure Platinum

These 2006-dated coins are struck from 1/2oz and 1/10oz of 99.95% pure platinum in proof quality. (1/2oz denomination used in obverse illustration.)

Flora Theme - Sturt's Desert Rose
The reverse of each coin depicts Sturt's Desert Rose (Gossypium sturtianum) in colour. Collected by explorer Captain Charles Sturt in creek beds of central Australia during 1844-45, it was proclaimed the floral emblem of the Northern Territory on 12 July 1961. The flowers of this compact shrub, a member of the hibiscus family, produce mauve petals with red bases, which form a contrasting centre. The coloured reverse includes the year-date.
Australian Legal Tender
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coins depict Ian Rank-Broadley's effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse.
Uniquely Australian Packaging
Each coin is housed in a superb presentation case with a lid made from Australian blackbutt timber. The case comes in a protective outer shipper featuring Discover Australia's distinctive logo.
Numbered Certificate of Authenticity
Each coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

The Perth Mint will release no more than 1,000 1/2oz and 2,500 1/10oz coins worldwide.
