Landmarks Theme - Perth
The coin's reverse depicts Perth. Founded in 1829, the world's most isolated capital city lies close to the south-west corner of Western Australia. Its development was slow until the discovery of rich gold deposits inland at Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie in the 1890s. Gold, and the State's other mineral resources, have shaped a modern, dynamic city in close proximity to unspoiled Indian Ocean beaches and its greatest asset of all - the graceful Swan River.
Coloured Reverse Design
The coin's reverse depicts a view of Perth's skyline and the Swan River in colour. The design includes a black swan, an extraordinary sight to early European explorers such as Willem de Vlamingh, who named the future city's main waterway in 1697.
Australian Legal Tender
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin depicts Ian Rank-Broadley's effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse.
Presentation Packaging
Each coin is housed in a superb presentation case with a lid made from Australian sheoak timber. The case comes in a protective outer shipper featuring Discover Australia's distinctive logo.
