After 50 years of service to Britain and the Commonwealth, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her Golden Jubilee of Accession in 2002. With the authorisation of the Australian Government and design approval by Buckingham Palace, The Perth Mint is proud to commemorate this remarkable milestone with the release of a striking bi-metal (gold and silver) coin. Unique Silver Order of the Thistle Centrepiece The elaborate, pure silver centrepiece is modelled on the Order of the Thistle brooch, worn by The Queen as Sovereign of the Order of the Thistle. The young Queen Elizabeth II, dressed for the annual Order of the Garter service, is portrayed against a background image of Buckingham Palace. The Order of the Garter is the oldest and most senior British Order of Chivalry, founded by Edward III in 1348. The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark is also incorporated in the design. Quality Presentation Housed in a finely crafted jarrah timber presentation case, with a marri timber inlay reflecting the shape of the Order of the Thistle brooch, the coin is accompanied by a serial-numbered Certificate of Authenticity. The 2002-dated coin is struck from 99.99% pure gold and 99.9% pure silver, in proof-like quality, and is legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. The obverse carries the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination $20.00. Limited Mintage No more than 7,500 individual bi-metal coins will be released.
