A spectacle of glittering coin treasures awaits those who purchase this Shield Sovereign Collection. Shield sovereigns were produced in Australia from 1871 until 1887, the year in which Queen Victoria celebrated her Golden Jubilee. The popular design is now being revived by the British Royal Mint in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s own Golden Jubilee in 2002. This collection brings together a 2002-dated shield sovereign, an original shield sovereign minted in Australia, and The Perth Mint’s stunning bi-metal gold and silver Golden Jubilee of Accession coin. Buckingham Palace Approval Issued with the design approval of Buckingham Palace, the bi-metal coin features probably the most complex and delicately shaped inlay of silver into gold ever seen in a commemorative coin. An eleborate pure silver centrepiece, modelled on the Order of the Thistle brooch, depicts The Queen dressed for the annual Order of the Garter service. The obverse carries the Ian-Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty. Highest Quality The nineteenth century sovereign is struck from 22ct gold (91.67% purity) and weighs 7.98 grams. The 2002-dated proof sovereign minted by the Royal Mint is also 22ct gold and 7.98 grams. The 2002-dated commemorative bi-metal coin, which is legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, is struck from 99.99% pure gold and 99.9% pure silver, in proof-like quality. Limited Edition A maximum of 100 collections will be issued by The Perth Mint. Presentation The Shield Sovereign Collection is housed in a jarrah presentation case and is accompanied by a serial-numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
