World Youth Day Sydney 2008 $1 Commemorative Coin

Hundreds of thousands of participants will celebrate World Youth Day in Sydney in July 2008 with His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, who is coming to Australia for the first time.
Australian $1 Commemorative Coin
This $1 commemorative coin, struck by The Perth Mint from aluminium bronze (30mm), is expected to be one of the most popular mementos of this historic occasion.
Australian Legal Tender
The coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.
Vatican-Approved Reverse
The coin’s reverse depicts a Vatican-approved coloured image of His Holiness The Pope. The design, which includes the official WYD08 logo, also incorporates the Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
Her Majesty The Queen Obverse
The coin’s obverse portrays the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Limited Mintage
No more than 500,000 of these $1 commemoratives will be released by The Perth Mint.
