The Perth Mint is delighted to introduce Young Collectors - 2008 Australian Animal $1 Coins, its first coin program especially for youngsters. Designed to be fun and educational, it also aims to inspire children to develop a lifelong interest in coin collecting.

Young Collectors kicks-off with 12 Australian Animal $1 coins dated 2008.
Australian Legal Tender
Each 2008-dated coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.

- Palm Cockatoo - Australia’s largest Cockatoo
- Wedge Tailed Eagle - Australia’s largest bird of prey
- Ghost Bat - the only carnivorous bat in Australia

Each coin is housed on a coloured card featuring a magnificent illustration of its animal. Educational information included on the back of the card includes whether the animal is endangered or secure, what it eats, where it lives, and a fascinating ‘Did You Know?’ section.

The coloured medallion depicting this friendly character is housed on a card featuring a personal note to collectors.
