This coin features pirate John Rackham (Calico Jack) who was born in England in 1682.
This pirate is most remembered for his striped calico breeches and ‘Jolly Roger’ flag.
When his ship was captured, Rackham’s two female crew members fought fiercely, while their drunken shipmates surrendered feebly. Tried in Jamaica in 1720, Rackham was hanged, but both women escaped death by claiming to be “with child”.
Calico Jack Reverse Design
The aluminium bronze coin reverse depicts Calico Jack against the backdrop of a pirate ship. The design includes a representation of the skull and crossed swords of the Jolly Roger flag and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
Tuvalu Legal Tender
Issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu, the coin depicts the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the 2011 year-date on the obverse.
