Time to get moo-ving – there’s a cow in our forecourt!
The City of Perth has partnered with the Perth Public Art Foundation (PPAF) to bring the world’s largest and most successful public art program, CowParade, to Perth and we are delighted to be getting our very own cow as part of this special event!
Created by artist Leanne Bray, the colourful installation currently on display here at the Mint is one of 40 vividly designed cows which have descended on our city. These life-sized fiberglass creations can be found in various locations throughout Perth for six weeks from 31 October to 13 December.
Each cow will showcase the styling and flair of a range of celebrated, emerging, mid-career and senior local artists and fashion designers.
CowParade is one of the world’s premier art events and was established in 1999. Since then it has been hosted in 79 cities worldwide, including New York, London, Buenos Aires, Rio, Tokyo, Paris and Hong Kong. Participating artists in the past have included the likes of the internationally famous - Vivienne Westwood, Radiohead and Christian Lacroix.
Since its inauguration, more than 250 million people have seen one of these incredible cows and in excess of AUD 30 million has been raised for charities worldwide through the auction of the cows. With the aim of raising money for child health research in Perth, many of the cows were recently auctioned at the 2016 Lexus Ball for Telethon.
To enhance the CowParade experience, the City of Perth will also be hosting ‘Amazing Grazing’ and ‘Festival Fromage’ so visitors to the city can enjoy a range of local delicacies.
