The procedure for opening a PMDS account is:

1. Download either an International Investor Client Information Package or an Australian / New Zealand Investor Client Information Package. (Pease be advised that prices contained in the Client Information Package, listed under Appendix A – Product List – have changed and will be updated on the website shortly. For updated information please contact Depository Services by email or phone. We apologise for any inconvenience.)
2. Mail or fax (originals will need to be mailed later) the following documents:
   -  a completed Application Form;
   - notarised copies of identification sufficient to meet AUSTRAC requirements for each operating authority. A birth certificate, driver's license and utility bill will suffice, although other identification documents can be used - see the 100 point check form for more details.
3. The Client Relations Executive will review the documents and if in order, will contact you with your account number. The account number, along with your password, is used to identify you to our bullion traders
4. PMDS requires a minimum of 10% of the total value of any proposed purchase in cleared funds in your PMDS account before dealing instructions in be accepted. Most clients usually deposit the full amount upfront. Notify the bullion trader of your proposed deposit and include your account number in the wiring instructions so that our settlements staff can identify your deposit. Please note: Any trade of $2,000,000.00 or more will require the full value being cleared in the account
5. Upon receipt of your deposit, the bullion trader will contact you for trading instructions
6. On completion of your purchase, the bullion trader will send you a trade confirmation.

While a PMDS account is primarily designed for holding precious metal, you can hold cash balances in AUD or USD (although interest is not paid). Therefore you do not need to immediately purchase metal once you have deposited funds and can wait until the time is right.
